Playboy’s cars of the year

Footage from the Playboy Mansion rarely strays beyond its swimming pool, sauna, trampoline and beach volleyball court (okay, we made the last two bits up), but one presumes there’s a capacious garage within its 5.3 acres. And one presumes it is well stocked.

So in what would ‘Hef’ like to crunch his drive’s gravel? The December edition of his famous magazine reveals all: its nine favourite cars for 2007, that is.

They are:

Best two-way player (best convertible, we’re guessing): VW Eos

Best sports coupé: Porsche 911 Turbo

Best SUV: Cadillac Escalade

Best bang for your buck (in the purely automotive sense): Ford Shelby Mustang GT500

Best roadster: Saturn Sky Red Line

Best pick-up (truck, not line): Toyota Tundra

Best cross-dresser (crossover vehicle, one hopes): Mazda CX-7

The Al Gore (or, on this side of the pond, David Cameron) Special: Lexus GS 450h

And its Car of the Year? BMW’s Z4M Coupé.

We reckon its choices of Porsche 911 Turbo and Shelby GT500 are spot-on. The rest, though, are a little less easy to defend. We eagerly await the readers’ informed response in the January 2007 issue. It's the only reason we subscribe...
