Kleemann pumps up the AMG 5.5 V8

Danish tuning house Kleemann has added some extra rort to AMG’s 5.5-litre V8 – just in case any customers felt that engine lacked grunt. There are four kits, in ascending orders of madness. Stage K1 gives you a new ECU and pulley wheel; K2 an altered exhaust system and a different chip; K3 sportier camshaft and a bespoke exhaust system; K4 a changed throttle body and inlet. The K1 modifications boost power to 512bhp and 555lb ft; K2 to 552bhp and 578lb ft; K3 to 601bhp and 618lb ft; K4 to a drivetrain-munching 631bhp and 731lb ft respectively.

These engine changes can be ordered separately or with other options from Kleemann's large catalogue. It doesn't come cheap: K1 costs £3595; K2 £6295; K3 £12,995 and K4 £15,966 - all excluding VAT.

The engine is fitted to the E-, CLS-, SL-, S-, CL- and GL-class models. Kleemann has one UK operation in East Sussex; for more information see www.kleemann.ltd.uk.
