Mazda has released the first details of its 3 MPS, the hot version of its Golf-sized hatchback.
The new car, which will be officially unveiled at the Geneva motor show next month, features a 2.3-litre turbocharged engine. Mazda is being coy about power figures, but the same engine, fitted to the 6 MPS, produces 257bhp.
Mazda has confirmed, however, that unlike the 6, the 3 will be front-wheel drive only. If the engine is tuned to the same level as the larger saloon, therefore, it would be one of the most powerful front-wheel-drive cars on the market.
The 3 MPS will not be the only new Mazda at Geneva. The firm will also show a Mazda 5 Hydrogen RE Hybrid concept, which uses a dual-fuel Rotary engine that can run on hydrogen or petrol, and an electric motor.
