We've seen the five-door, now Suzuki has released images of the three-door Vitara

Readers of autocar.co.uk have kept our spy shots area well stocked with images of Suzuki's new Grand Vitara, now the Japanese maker has finally released its first official pictures of the three-door version, which goes on sale in the UK in October after being unveiled in Frankfurt next month.

Like the five-door, the three-door has strong overtones of the Toyota Rav4, but it is a big step forward over the ageing current car. The short-wheelbase three-door gets a shorter wheelbase and iws launched with a 1.6-litre petrol engine, while the five-door gets 2.0-litre petrol and 1.9-litre turbodiesel.

Permanent four-wheel drive and a rugged ladder frame built into its monocoque chassis should help it overtake the old car off-road, while an optional automatic gearbox is likely to be popular for users who stick to the blacktop.
