These simultaneously-hatched cars are the result of a ground-up collaboration between PSA Peugeot-Citroën and Toyota. The Peugeot 107, Citroën C1 and Toyota Aygo are built on the same basic platform, and even though these triplets are very closely related, the makers will be competing head-to-head in one of the most fiercely competitive markets in the world.
All three cars will roll off the production lines from early in the new year. They will be made at a brand-new factory near Kolin in the Czech Republic, dubbed TPCA (Toyota Peugeot Citroën Automobile).
The result of a three-year engineering programme, the cars are around 3.4m long, 1.6m wide and 1.4m high. Described as four-seaters, they are aimed primarily at the European market, where demand for city cars is expected to grow.
Details are still scarce ahead of the unveiling at the Geneva Motor Show next March. However, there will be the option of the latest-generation 1.0-litre petrol and 1.4-litre diesel engines.
TPCA expects make 300,000 units a year, equally divided between the three makers. The three cars are due in showrooms next June for around £7500.
