Currently reading: New engines for Jazz and CRV

Honda is refreshing two of its most popular models, the Jazz and CR-V, and adding a new engine to each range. The Jazz (right), Autocar’s favourite supermini, is getting a new entry-level 1.2-litre engine to supplement the existing 1.4. Available only in basic S trim, the 77bhp 1.2 model misses out on the 1.4’s air-con, sunroof and remote locking, and should cost around £8000.

The new engine comes into the range along with slight visual tweaks which include restyled bumpers, new wheel trims and alloys, a tweaked light cluster and steering wheel-mounted gearshift paddles on the CVT-7 auto, which replace the previous buttons.

Meanwhile the CR-V (above) gets its first-ever diesel engine: the acclaimed 138bhp 2.2-litre i-CTDi oil-burner, first fitted to the Accord. Other changes to the CR-V consist of a revamped front bumper, headlamp cluster and foglight design, a new hard spare-wheel cover and freshened interior. Curtain airbags are now standard in the higher-spec models, and Honda says it has improved its Real Time four-wheel-drive system.

Both the revised CR-V and Jazz go on sale in October, with prices announced nearer to launch.

Honda has also announced prices for the FR-V, the Japanese company’s six-seat Fiat Multipla rival. The range kicks off with the 1.7 SE at £14,750, while the top-spec 2.0 Sport costs £16,400.
