The Porsche 911 Turbo has just got faster. The new £99,300 Turbo S coupé and £105,030 cabriolet will be unveiled at the Birmingham Motor Show this week, and arrive at Porsche dealerships in August. The standard Turbo’s 3.6-litre flat six engine has been fitted with a pair of larger turbochargers, modified intercoolers and a revised engine management system, that together pump up the car’s already impressive power output by 30bhp to a total of 450bhp at 5700rpm. Complementing this power hike is a jump in peak torque from 413 to 457lb ft, available between 3500 and 4400rpm. Anyone who’s ever driven a 911 Turbo with the optional Power Pack will already be familiar with this set of numbers, but the S marks the first time that the uprated engine has been fitted to a production Porsche. The strengthened six-speed ’box is also carried over from the Power Pack, while the optional ceramic brake discs from the GT3 are standard fit for the first time on a 911. If £99,300 seems like a lot of cash, then remember that the engine, ’box and brake upgrades alone would add £14,064 to the price of a standard Turbo, and that wouldn’t include the metallic paint and cruise control fitted to the S.
The new 997 isn't at Birmingham because, according to Porsche, no cars were ready in time for the show.
