The name of British racing marque Vanwall is to reappear on handmade sports cars, kicking off with a Cosworth-engined replica of its 1958 GP-winning car.

Vanwall’s star burned brightly but briefly in the ’50s. The team won the 1958 constructor’s championship with Stirling Moss at the wheel, but disbanded in 1959. The rights to the Vanwall name have been licensed to Brit sports car builder Arthur Wolstenholme – who used to run the now defunct Ronart Cars – by automotive components giant Dana.

The single-seater Vanwall 58 has aluminium bodywork over a modern spaceframe and a 250bhp 2.3-litre four-cylinder Cosworth engine.

Look out for a road-oriented rear-drive two-seater with a retro look later this year.
