Land Rover has finally taken the wraps off the concept that will inspire its forthcoming sports SUV. L320, previewed at last year’s Frankfurt show, becomes known as the Range Stormer after yesterday's Detroit motor show launch. It’s the first true concept car Land Rover has ever produced, and you can read about it in detail in Autocar this week.
Powered by a supercharged 370bhp V8, it promises to compete with Porsche’s Cayenne Turbo and Merc’s ML55 for pace. Land Rover is also promising on-road dynamics to match, ushering in a new breed of vehicles hallmarked by on-road sophistication, handling and performance. Managing director Matthew Taylor said ‘the production vehicle will be the fastest, best handling, and most spirited vehicle we have ever made.’ It’s expected to make showrooms by 2005.
