In a major blow for performance Vauxhall fans, the two-seater Lightning concept looks increasingly unlikely to make it into production.
Engineering problems – particularly crash regulations – are being blamed, rather than problems constructing a business case. ‘There are issues with the car; it’s looking like a bit of a
challenge,’ said a GM insider.
Seen as a replacement for the VX220, which ends production next year, the concept was unveiled in May to celebrate Vauxhall’s 100th birthday.
At the time, Vauxhall managing director Kevin Wale said: ‘The VX Lightning says everything about where Vauxhall is heading.’ Not any more.
