First-ever electric Skoda is good for a 140km range; set to enter fleet trials in 2011

Skoda has revealed this all-electric Octavia Green E Line concept at the Paris motor show.

The first-ever electric Skoda is based on the Octavia estate and is due to be launched in 2011 on a special test fleet to shape the car’s future development.

It is powered by a 114bhp electric motor and a lithium-ion battery. Peak torque of 199lb ft is instantly available from 0rpm; it takes 12sec to get from 0-62mph and can reach a top speed limited to 84mph.

The Skoda Octavia Green E Line’s range is 140km, enough to meet the demands of most European commuters, according to Skoda.

Skoda says the Octavia’s modular chassis allows the battery pack, electric motor and electronic control systems to be fitted to the estate model without impacting on the space of the five-seat interior or loading capacity.

The driver is informed of information including battery charge and power consumption on a computer screen on the dash, while the sat-nav screen displays whether the car is using or generating electricity.

The exterior design of the Octavia is subtly changed for the electric model; pearlescent white paint and a gloss black roof feature, as does chrome trim at the front and rear and integrated energy-generating photovoltaic panels on the roof.
