Currently reading: Hybrid Toyota Yaris concept set for Frankfurt reveal

Toyota's Frankfurt motor show concept is to be a hybrid Yaris with close to 400bhp

The Toyota Hybrid R concept for the Frankfurt motor show will generate more than 395bhp from its hybrid drivetrain.

The manufacturer has again teased the concept with a second photo in the run up to the Frankfurt motor show next month. On its own the image reveals little about the car. However, when digitally brightened the photo appears to show a Toyota Yaris.

This correlates with Toyota saying that the concept is based on a current production model. Previously only the new Hybrid R badge has been seen.

Toyota has also confirmed that the car will feature technology used on its FIA World Endurance Championship car, which finished in second place at this year's Le Mans 24 Hours race. The car will also feature changeable driving modes, which Toyota says will make it suitable for both road and track.

The company will release further information on the model in the run up to Frankfurt.

A Yaris doesnt need 400 bhp

A Yaris doesnt need 400 bhp to be sporty, but it does need not to have a CVT.

Will keep the pensioners happy.

A 400bhp Yaris? Somehow I reckon Toyota will still find a way to make it boring.

Great concept

But that's just it, it's a concept, so probably just another inaccessible hatch. Toyota is a volume producer and doesn't have a history of limited production stuff so far as I can recall.

I think it's worth the effort though. Hybrids don't have a good name in the eyes of most enthusiasts, probably because most have been aimed at improving efficiency, but there's no reason why a hybrid can't be tuned to be sporting too, as I'm sure this yaris is about to show...
