Exclusive six-part 'Legends' series continues with the launch of the Jean-Pierre Wimille edition

This is the Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport Vitesse Legend Jean-Pierre Wimille. It has been revealed today at Pebble Beach, and just three versions of the car will be sold.

Based on a standard Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport Vitesse, it is powered by the same 1184bhp 8.0-litre W16 engine.

The Legend Jean-Pierre Wimille's colour scheme takes its inspiration from the Bugatti Type 57G Tank, the 1937 Le Mans winning car. It was driven to victory by Wimille, who then secured his status at Bugatti by winning the race again two years later.

The bodywork is entirely carbonfibre, with some of the panels treated so that they are blue. Inside, the headliner, footwells and seat inserts carry the same blue colour as the exterior, with darker seat bolsters adding a contrast. Stitching on the gearlever and steering wheel is in red, white and blue, in honour of Wimille's nationality.

Other added details include a motif displaying Wimille's signature on the headrest, a milled silhouette of the Le Mans race circuit embedded on the aluminium centrebox and a special logo on the door sill plates bearing the words 'Les Légendes de Bugatti' and Wimille's signature.

“With our first Legend ‘Jean-Pierre Wimille’ we are celebrating Bugatti’s racing life, which experienced a meteoric high point with the Le Mans victory of 1937," said Wolfgang Schreiber, president of Bugatti. "Bugatti has a strong tradition. Our customers and fans have a great understanding of the brand’s history."

Bugatti plans to launch six Legends versions of the Veyron, selling three examples of each. No prices have been revealed,

Numerous special edition Veyrons have been created since the car's launch, as high-end buyers typically want to ensure that their cars are unique or have an added cachet.
