Seat Leon Cupra sets Nurburgring lap record; Ford sells 500 Ecosports through Facebook; former PSA boss moves to GM

Seat Leon Cupra 280 has broken the lap record for a front-wheel drive production car at the Nurburgring. The car, driven by Jordi Gene, recorded a 7m58.4s time at the Nordschleife with an average speed of 96.8mph. The time is some ten seconds faster than the previous record set by a Renault Megane Renaultsport Trophy in 2011.

Tim Zimmerman has been named the new president of General Motor's Southeast Asia operations. Zimmerman has come to GM from PSA Peugeot Citroën, where he has worked since 1986. He succeeds Jim DeLuca, who held the position on a temporary basis.

Ford has sold 500 Ford Ecosport compact SUVs solely through Facebook. Its social media campaign used adverts to drive customers to a customisation page, following which they would be presented with a voucher that could be used to buy their exact car.

That is a seriously quick time from the SEAT! That is just roughly 1 minute slower than the Porsche 918, a car with 3-4 times the power! Even a Nissan GTR is only 50secs ahead

Kudos to the driver Mr Gene (as well as SEAT - time are probably right to be selling a budget Golf VII)...
