2016 Vauxhall Maloo gets a new supercharged V8 engine with 529bhp, and numerous mechanical and styling updates

The Vauxhall Maloo pick-up truck has been updated, with the new model gaining a supercharged 6.2-litre V8 engine.

Its uprated engine means total power is now rated at 529bhp - a significant boost from the 425bhp of the old Maloo. The same engine is already found in the VXR8 GTS saloon, and is also used in tuned form in the Chevrolet Camaro ZL1.

As well as its upgraded powertrain, which features a new cooling package and a high-flow exhaust system, the car’s springs and dampers have been stiffened, and a new rear suspension module has been fitted to improve braking efficiency.

Vauxhall says the new LSA Maloo is the fastest commercial vehicle on sale in the UK; it can reach 62mph in 4.6 seconds. It can also haul up to 540kgs in weight.

The previous Maloo was capable of hitting 62mph in 5.3 seconds, as well as covering a standing quarter mile in 13.7 seconds.

New standard equipment includes launch control on manual models, a limited-slip differential, satellite navigation, Bluetooth connectivity, an upgraded driver interface and leather trim. Chunky 20in alloy wheels are standard, and the pick-up has a redesigned front end with a splitter and new bonnet air vents.

The LSA Maloo is available now, with prices starting from £54,000 - a £3000 premium over the old model.

It is obvious what A4/6 have

It is obvious what A4/6 have to do with this. Like symbolise a chronic lack of genuine variety. What would be left of the European car industry is you look away the Golf platform?

If the Maloo, G63, Mustang etc exist and make some people joyful, what skin is it off the nose (or knuckles) of those who derive satisfaction from a Golf TDi performing stop/start?

Hear Hear eseaton!

Apparently if you like anything vaguely different or interesting you're a knuckle dragger. Must be really interesting wanting to read about an Audi A6 that's different to an A4 because it's got a crease in a different place and it's a bit bigger................yawn, sorry, sending myself to sleep there.....
I bet a go in a Maloo somewhere like a track or an airfield would be bloody hilarious, off to get some cream for my sore knuckles......

Not sure what A4/6's have got to do with this, neither did I say you're a knuckle dragger if you like anything different.

This car, pickup, truck or whatever it's described as is a dinosaur and like them it should be confined to history. It's nearly 2016 not 1965, we've moved on, and no, the world is not a better place still having shitboxes like this around.

Completely disagree with most

Completely disagree with most of these comments. If you don't think the world is a richer place for crazy products such as this, and would rather read about yet another tedious variation on the VAG platform with a TDI attached, well, we have nothing in common. Give me a ride in a Maloo any day...
