Special-edition Audi R8 pays tribute to R8 LMS GT3; it features exclusive paintwork and interior trim and upgraded equipment

The Audi R8 V10 Plus Selection 24h has been revealed to celebrate the success of Audi’s R8 LMS GT3 model in motorsport.

Along with various interior and equipment upgrades, the R8 V10 Plus Selection 24h is marked out by its exclusive three-tone paintwork, which is inspired by its motorsport cousin.

The colour combination consists of white bodywork with red accents along the front and rear bumpers, side skirts and side air intakes, as well as a gloss black and carbonfibre finish on the aerodynamic appendages and door mirrors and black-painted wheels.

Inside, the serial number is displayed on the illuminated door sill panels, while other interior trim panels, also finished in gloss-finish carbonfibre, feature an 'R8 24h' logo, like the side blades on the outside of the car.

A ‘monoposto arc’ also features on the car’s interior – a carbon hoop circling the steering wheel and instrument cluster, extending down either side of the driver to give the impression of a single-seat racing car.

No changes have been made to the engine over the regular 601bhp R8 V10 Plus, so the special edition has the same claimed 0-62mph time of 3.2sec and 205mph top speed.

Various options on the regular R8 V10 Plus have been fitted as standard on the special edition, including dynamic steering, adaptive magnetic dampers and laser lighting.

The special-edition R8 is limited to 24 units. The UK’s share of this number is still under negotiation, and the price has not yet been revealed.

The R8 LMS GT3 that inspired the R8 V10 Plus Selection 24h was first seen in 2009 and has won multiple endurance events, including the Nürburgring 24-hour race on its first attempt.

Colour

The bodywork is in Suzuaka Grey, not white I'm reliably informed (apparently it doesn't photograph well).

Think the R8 remains a great choice for people who value an immense NA V10 over the need to have a Porsche badge on their driveable supercar. Not sure if this justifies the extra over the V10+ though, but I imagine they'll sell out easily enough anyway.
