What is it?
If we’re talking about mechanical bits and not about trim level, this is the entry point into the new Peugeot 3008 range. Although the 1.2-litre three-cylinder Puretech engine can be found under the bonnet of all manner of PSA Group products, the rest of the car is a significant departure from the outgoing 3008.
In case you’ve been stuck in a cave on the side of a mountain for the past 10 years, SUVs are very much ‘in’ at the moment. That was something of a problem for the old 3008; it may have had some skidplate-effect bumpers and an elevated driving position, but it looked more MPV than mud-plugger. Not cool.
So to funk things up a bit, Peugeot has turned the 3008 into yet another 4x4-inspired family wagon. The important word here is 'inspired'; unlike most rivals, there’s no all-wheel-drive 3008, just some extra-clever traction control, along with mud and snow tyres.
To round things off, weight is down, the dimensions have been tweaked to make it appear less dumpy and there’s lots of tech to boot. That includes a fully digital dashboard as standard, along with an 8.0in touchscreen infotainment system. So, the 3008 impressed us abroad, but what’s it like in the UK?
