A seven-seat GS and a smaller, sub-XS SUV are coming to expand MG's range

MG will extend its SUV line-up in the next few years, offering both a baby SUV to sit below both the newly revealed XS and a seven-seat version of the GS.

Currently, the GS is a five-seat Qashqai rival, but the model will be overhauled in 2019, according to MG’s UK sales and marketing boss, Matthew Cheyne, and will also be offered with seven seats.

These new SUVs, along with the 3 supermini and upcoming 6 saloon, will make MG’s range six-strong, including the E-Motion electric sports car which will sit at the top of the range as a halo model.

E-Motion aside, the line-up will include plug-in hybrid (PHEV) and electric variants, which will start with a PHEV XS, before a full electric XS comes in 18 months to 2 years’ time, said Cheyne, talking at the London motor show.

The XS spearheads MG’s new design direction, with a Jaguar-like front grille and heavily styled taillights. The design will first spread to the 3 when it's  facelifted in the next 12 months, before other models adopt the look.

Cheyne aims for MG to be selling up to 25,000 cars per year in the UK by 2020 or 2021. Last year, it sold 4,192 models.

Great designs for the price

Seriously, for £12500 these are great designs and the interior seems up to class standards.

Show me something better in the same price bracket (new cars) then lets start a sensible discussion.

What ugly-ass SUVs these are

Especially the XS. So the inevitable news that MG will expand their SUV range is hardly welcome if these 2 monstrosities are anything to go by!

Having looked over it and sat in it....

.... I was impressed with what's been achieved. Easy to rubbish something when you have not even seen it. Bear in mind too that this was a Chinese production line car in entirely Chinese rather U.K. specification...
