Mercedes-AMG is sending the original Mercedes-Benz G-Class off in style with the introduction of two limited-volume versions of the military-grade off-roader.
On show at the Frankfurt motor show, the Mercedes-AMG G 63 and G65 Exclusive Edition receive a range of unique styling touches to both their exterior and interior.
The new G-Class models arrive just five months before a more contemporary G-Class model - featuring an all-aluminium body, wider tracks, significant weight reduction and a newly styled interior - is expected to make its public premiere at the 2018 Detroit motor show. It is planned to be sold alongside an updated version of the original G-Class.
New to the G63 and G65 Exclusive Edition is a unique grey paint finish, a stainless running kick plate integrated within the lower edge of the front bumper, AMG racing stripes along the lower section of the doors, body protection elements in a dark aluminium look and a spare wheel cover painted in the vehicle colour.
The G63 Exclusive Edition receives 21in matt-black alloy wheels shod with 295/40 profile tyres. The G65 uses different-looking alloys with inserts in carbonfibre look but in the same size and with the same-sized tyres.
Inside, the two limited-volume models sport an instrument panel in two-tone leather, as well as sport seats with similarly styled two–tone leather upholstery featuring diamond-pattern quilting and integrated air conditioning. Buyers can choose between six colour combinations for the leather, along with either carbonfibre or back piano lacquer trim elements.

I don't know how old you are,
I don't know how old you are, but I'm old enought to remember when G Wagens were pitched at a reasonable price - always high, but reasonable. As I said, it seems Mercedes are continually taking it up-market. The fastest-growing sector is the SUV (the real SUVs, that is, not what journalists on here call SUVs!). If the new Defender ever comes out then I expect it to do well. Ford are entering the market (for utlitarian 4x4s) and Jeep will have the new Wrangler. So I'm a little surprised that Mercedes is set to go even further up-market. Vauxhall/Opel have done really well out of the Mokka, and Skoda with the Yeti. Slightly different SUVs, granted, but my economics class taught me to make a lot (of whatever) and make them cheap(er), if you want to make serious money. JLR invested a lot of money in making high-end vehicle profits, when they could have made more with a Yeti. Just my opinion.
@Bazzer
"you would think they would have pitched it to compete with the new Defender"
Why Bazzer?
Thats like saying why dont Rolls Royce price their Phantom to compete with a Mondeo!
If I understand it correctly,
If I understand it correctly, Mercedes are going to make the new one a high-end version (expensive). It will be even more expensive than the new Defender (if it ever breaks cover). Odd, because you'd think they would have pitched it to compete with the new Defender.
Why?
When they won't have to try very hard to persuade idiots to buy expensive high end models that will allow them to make obseen profits?
