Meet the game-changing fastback that blends a stylish coupé profile, and hatchback-style boot with a premium technology-packed interior

The all-new PEUGEOT 508 Fastback is one of a new breed of stylish saloons, breaking the mould of the traditional three-box formula by blending a coupé-inspired profile with the practicality and convenience of a spacious, easy-access hatchback boot. The aim: to stand out in a crowded sea of high-riding SUVs.

We loved the all-new PEUGEOT 508 Fastback’s sophisticated interior, excellent ride and composed handling, giving it a four-star verdict in our comprehensive review.

Now the Fifth Gear team have got their hands on it, with presenter Jason Plato saying that PEUGEOT have: “kept all of the five-door, five-seat practicality, and thought about style too.”

Design that breaks the mould

The 508 Fastback’s striking looks start with the sculpted front-end, marking the latest evolution of PEUGEOT’s bold new modern design direction. Slim-line LED headlights frame the chequered-effect grille, while LED daytime running lights amplify PEUGEOT’s distinctive new light signature by acting as eye-catching indicators.

Large alloy wheels and elegant frameless doors enhance the 508 Fastback’s low-slung sporty profile, while the extra-wide opening of the swooping hatchback offers even easier access to the spacious 487-litre boot, especially when you add the smart electric tailgate with ‘hands-free’ function.

At the rear, PEUGEOT’s signature 3D LED ‘claw-effect’ rear lights have a design that harks back to the iconic PEUGEOT 504. They adjust to match the light conditions for optimum visibility, and illuminate with an eye-catching dynamic scrolling ‘welcome’ sequence when the car is unlocked.

i-Cockpit®: transforming the view

The 508 Fastback’s sporty theme continues inside, with PEUGEOT’s high-tech i-Cockpit®. It blends a compact steering wheel with a highly configurable 12.3” digital head-up display and a 10” high-definition touchscreen (standard from Allure versions) that is angled towards the driver for an even better view.

Thanks to Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity with PEUGEOT’s Mirror Screen, you can control apps for navigation, music, calls and texts on compatible smartphones using the touchscreen and voice control. Wireless charging, Connected 3D satellite navigation and a premium FOCAL audio system with 515-watt output and 10 speakers are also available.

The trim range on the 508 Fastback – ranging from Active, Allure and GT Line to the range-topping GT or the limited-run First Edition – perfectly reflects PEUGEOT’s increased focus on quality materials and premium interior design.

Peugeot's handsome mid-sized saloon and wagon get a new face and improved interior

Depending on which variant you choose, you get atmospheric LED interior lighting, premium Alcantara and Nappa Mistral trims with Aikinite double-stitch detailing, as well as carbon-effect and piano black detailing.

Also available are seats for the driver and front passenger with multi-point electric adjustment, massaging and driver seat memory. And PEUGEOT hasn’t forgotten about the rear passengers, with a panoramic opening glass roof that brings even more light into the spacious cabin.

An active drive

Backing up its sporty coupé looks, the 508 Fastback has been designed to be more engaging to drive. You can choose from PEUGEOT’s latest-generation PureTech 1.6-litre turbo petrol engines – with a range-topping 225hp version – or three 1.5-litre and 2.0-litre BlueHDi turbo diesel for improved effiency.

A six-speed manual gearbox is available on the 1.5-litre turbo diesel, while a smooth eight-speed automatic is available across the rest of the range. Optional active suspension with variable damping allows you to pick from various modes, including sport and comfort.

The PEUGEOT 508 Fastback also features all of the latest safety and driver assistance technology you would expect from a modern saloon – including Automatic Emergency Braking, Distance Alert and Active Lane Keeping Assist as standard.

An optional Safety Plus Pack adds Active Blind Spot Detection, Advanced Driver Attention Alert and PEUGEOT’s Smartbeam Assistance, while the Drive Assist Plus Pack gives you the benefit of Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop & Go, as well as Lane Positioning Assist.

Parking is made easy, with front and rear parking sensors and a wide-view 180-degree colour reversing camera or a full 360-degree surround camera on selected trims, while you can also choose to fit Full Park Assist for one-button automated parking.

Perhaps the coolest piece of tech, though, is Night Vision technology – which uses an infrared camera to identify pedestrians, animals or other potential hazards in the road ahead at night, before displaying them on the 12.3” head-up digital instrument panel.

In PEUGEOT’s own words, the 508 Fastback has been designed to “shake up the market”, and it clearly seems to be delivering the goods.
