The Toyota GT 86 sports car will cost from £24,995 when it goes on sale in the UK in June, Toyota has confirmed. The announcement brings to an end more than two years of speculation, where it was claimed the GT 86 would cost from as low as £15,000 to as much as £30,000.
Order books for the GT 86 are now open, but exact specifications have yet to be revealed. At the heart of the rear-drive 2+2 coupe is a 197bhp, 151lb ft 2.0-litre boxer engine. Six-speed manual and automatic transmissions are offered, and a limited-slip differential is standard.
Top speed for the 1180kg front-engined coupe is likely to be around 155mph, and 0-62mph is tipped to take around 7.0sec. Toyota claims the GT 86’s dimensions of 4240mm in length, 1775mm in width and 1285mm in make it the most compact four-seater car in the world. It has an ultra-low centre of gravity, rated at just 475mm.
The powertrain and driving position have been set as low and as far back as possible to optimise balance, giving the car a 53/47 weight distribution. The GT 86 features MacPherson strut front suspension and rear double wishbone suspension, and will ride on 17in wheels.
Subaru has yet to confirm pricing for its version of the GT 86, the BRZ, but it is expected to command a premium of up to £5000 over the Toyota.
