Classic shots of Lotus competing at the Le Mans 24 Hours

Group Lotus has ramped up its plans for a return to top-level racing by appointing a director of motorsport, Claudio Berro.

Although he is currently evaluating several different forms of motorsport for Lotus to compete in, a return to Le Mans is possible.

In celebration of this fact, autocar.co.uk has gone through its photographic archives to find some of the best shots of Lotus cars at Le mans in the 1950s and '60s.

Picture 1 is a Lotus 11 , not a 7 .Also picture 10 is probably an 11 as well ( the Lotus 22 was a single seat F/Junior car.

Interesting that the headline photo for this story shows three Ferrari 250 Testa Rossas, with a Lotus barely recognisable in the background...

Good to see Lotus getting serious about racing again,

MG got heavily in to racing, BTCC Le Mans, even looked at Indy-cars, I hope Lotus don't overeach themselves in the same way
