The Vauxhall Antara - the new Frontera

This is Vauxhall's replacement for the Frontera - the Antara. The manufacturer has not had an off-roader on sale since 2003.

The range will start at around £19,000 for the least powerful of the two diesels on offer - the 130bhp 2.0-litre. There will also be a 150bhp diesel and a 139bhp 2.4-litre four-cylinder petrol. Europe will get a 3.2-litre V6, but that won't be coming to the UK.

The Antara has hill descent control, which has become an expected feature in the class, and a dashboard that blends current Vauxhall design elements with future ones - it previews that of the forthcoming Corsa.

The car is set for a 2007 launch; expect the petrol to be around £1,000 cheaper than the diesel.
