Best of Goodwood 2014 - our top 7 concepts and vehicle debuts

In a move which has firmly cemented the annual Goodwood Festival of Speed as the closest thing to a British motor show currently on the motoring calendar, a number of manufacturers chose to showcase their latest models on Lord March's estate.

There were many moments to choose from, be it the first chance to see Skoda's Yeti Xtreme and Citijet concepts on UK soil alongside Seat's Ibiza Cupster, taking a closer look at Peugeot's new 2008-based Dakar racer, or perhaps marvel at special displays featuring Mazda's 25th anniversary MX-5 special and Maserati's Alfieri.

Here's just some of our favourite new metal from the Goodwood Festival of Speed 2014.

1 - Aston Martin DP100

One of a duo of concept cars specially created for the Gran Turismo 6 video-game, Aston Martin's designers were given free reign to create the supercar of their dreams. Sitting very low on the ground, the mid-engined concept car was envisioned with a twin-turbocharged V12 engine on board. With 800bhp available alongside 774lb ft of torque, gamers should have more than enough to play with when the model becomes available for download next month.

2 - Nissan Concept 2020 Vision Gran Turismo

To the vast majority, Nissan's own Gran Turismo project, the Concept 2020 Vision Gran Turismo, will remain a virtual racer. The rumour-mill has been in overdrive ever since the car's reveal, however, that it could in fact point towards the styling of the next GT-R. Nissan bosses haven't denied the similarities, either, merely telling us there are styling clues on the car which hint towards a model bound for 2020. Exact virtual power outputs for the car haven't been revealed, but officials have told us they had planned for a 3.5-litre hybrid powertrain to be used.

3 - McLaren 650S GT3

We knew a replacement for McLaren's 12C GT3 race car would be on the cards ever since that model's axing earlier this year, and we got our answer at Goodwood in the form of the 650S GT3, which McLaren will field in the FIA GT endurance racing championship from next year. Built in just three weeks by McLaren GT - the firm's motorsport arm - the 650S GT3 has a widened front track and larger wheels and tyres. No power upgrades have been revealed, meaning the racer is likely to keep the standard 650S coupe's 3.8-litre twin-turbocharged 3.8-litre engine with 641bhp and 500lb ft of torque.

4 - Bentley Continental GT3-R

It was only apt that Bentley took the covers off its road-going racer at this year's Festival of Speed, having unveiled the original GT3 there last year. Described as the most dynamic road car the company has ever produced, the GT3-R gets 572bhp and 516lb ft of torque from its 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine. It's light, too, clocking in at over 100kg lighter than the GT V8 S. Don't go thinking this is a stripped-out racer, though, Bentley officials wanted to keep the luxuries its customers would expect so there's quilted leather trim inside, alongside sports seats and a retained infotainment and navigation system.
